Founder and Chief Instructor - Denzil Govender Shihan

– A South African Karate exponent, Began his Karate journey at a juvenile age of 7 years old with the Shotokan Karate International (SKI) in Durban Kwa-Zulu Natal.

During his Martial Arts career Denzil Govender Shihan had the opportunity to represent his Province and Country in the Tournament circuit accumulating many accolades along his way. Not only did he triumph in the ring but most importantly he had the privilege to train with karate masters from all over the globe, Some of these great Masters he trained with was:

– H. Kanazawa Sensei
– R. Koga Sensei
– M. Kagawa Sensei
– M. Murakami Sensei
– T. Weber Sensei
– Frank Woon-A-Tai Sensei.

Under the direction of world-renowned karate master Shuseki Shihan Dr. Frank Woon-A-Tai, Denzil Shihan and two of his senior instructors formally founded the International Karate Daigaku (IKD) in South Africa in 2015. IKD is one of the fastest-growing organizations, with members in 63 countries. Denzil Shihan is a third Dan Black Belt in Hayashi-Ha Shito-Ryu. In 2025, with the mentorship of his Teacher Shuseki Shihan Dr. Frank Woon-A-Tai, he successfully passed his seventh degree black belt and became a certified A-A-A-Instructor, Examiner, and Judge—the highest ranking IKD member in Africa.
